With so many lines on board, there are usually some cut off lengths and small stuff available to pass away the quiet times.

Tying knots, practicing new ones or even inventing something different is a good start.   This may eventually spark your curiosity and inspire you to make something memorable and more long lasting…

Over the years I have been playing with strings, I learnt some fancy knots and tried making something of it.   I have covered knife handles, made “Jewellery” of a sort, covered cigar tubes in which I carry needles and small items.

I am not the most sucessful in these but persist and will have something to show for it if I should ever move ashore…

Imagination, some patience and very few tools are all that is required to help while away long hours off watch.
